The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at Hartford Hospital and The Flynn Foundation—including its President & Founder Fred Flynn—celebrated three “Flynn Fellows” during a Summer 2025 ceremony.

The local nursing graduates honored for completing their fellowships include:

  • Jordyn Jarvi – University of Wisconsin – Madison
  • Gabriella Buonafede – Boston College
  • Yenevy Juarez Hernandez – University of Connecticut

Since 2014, the Flynn Oncology Nurse Fellowship has provided 28 Hartford Hospital fellows with paid clinical experience, mentorship, and a pathway to a successful career in oncology nursing. The program, which was created to honor the memory of Susan Flynn, is supported by The Flynn Foundation.

Family and friends knew Susan Flynn to be an extraordinary woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother, a successful business leader, and an active community volunteer. Following a courageous battle against Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer, Susan sadly passed away in May 2013 at the age of 61. Her husband, Fred Flynn, was so thankful for his wife’s cancer care team that their family created the Flynn Foundation to address the critical need for more and better-prepared oncology nurses.
