On Monday, June 5th, 2023, over 130 golfers hit the links at Torrington Country Club for the 21st Annual Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) Golf Classic where $200,000 was raised in support of youth mental health in the hospital’s northwest Connecticut service area. The net proceeds from this year’s event will directly benefit the Children’s Behavioral Health and Pet Therapy Program at CHH’s Center for Youth and Families.
The Center for Youth and Families is a Child Advocacy Center—the only such center in northwest Connecticut—and a professional mental health service that assists children, adolescents, and their families with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and family difficulties. Funds raised for the Center will be used to elevate the clinic’s work through the addition of a part-time Child Trauma Response Coordinator and a specially trained, hypoallergenic therapy dog that will team up to support mental health services both on-site and throughout the community.
“Every year Charlotte Hungerford Hospital can count on the greater Torrington community to champion our beneficiaries at the Annual Golf Classic through great attendance, a collegial atmosphere, and strong philanthropic support,” said John J. Capobianco, Senior Vice President, Northwest Region for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and Hartford HealthCare. “I am grateful for the substantial business and community support for our hospital and its Center for Youth and Families—we are honored to be northwest Connecticut’s home for high-quality, accessible healthcare.”
“We are so pleased to continue the tradition and success of the popular CHH Golf Classic as we spotlight the important work and needs of our Center for Youth and Families,” said Debbie Bender, Senior Philanthropy Officer at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “The addition of a Prevention Specialist and therapy dog at the Center will allow our care team to enhance their community outreach and provide increased comfort and reassurance to the thousands of children and families who seek our care. Thank you to our valued sponsors, many volunteers, partners at Torrington Country Club, and Honorary Committee Chair Bill Zampaglione for contributions that will make our hospital and region safer, stronger, and healthier.”
“We are proud to support Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and always will be,” said 2023 Golf Committee Honorary Chair Bill Zampaglione, VP, Real Estate of PAC Group LLC. “CHH is an incredibly important resource for this region that impacts thousands of lives each year through its delivery of quality care. I want to thank the local community for its steadfast philanthropic support of our hometown hospital and congratulate Charlotte Hungerford and its leadership and philanthropy teams on a successful event that will benefit our friends, neighbors, and loved ones for years to come.”
