Black & Red 2020
to Benefit
the Digestive Health Center at Hartford Hospital
An estimated 60 to 70 million people in the United States suffer from digestive disorders, which include a wide spectrum of conditions that affect the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, and small and large intestine.
The causes of these disorders range from infections, inflammatory conditions, to cancer. While some digestive disorders can be solved with simple lifestyle changes, chronic conditions like Crohn’s disease and life-threatening illnesses like colorectal and other gastrointestinal (GI) tract cancers require lifelong management, resulting in thousands of physician and emergency rooms visits in Connecticut annually. In the United States there are over 15 million emergency department visits and 3 million hospital admissions for patients with GI disease. Expenditures for GI diseases total $135.9 billion annually—greater than for other common diseases such as heart disease.
Hartford HealthCare is elevating excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders that affect the GI tract with the advancement of the Digestive Health Center at Hartford Hospital.
In collaboration with one of the largest gastroenterology practices in the nation, Connecticut GI, the Hartford Hospital Digestive Health Center specializes in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to provide high-quality, leading-edge treatment for the most complex digestive diseases. To ensure that patients with GI disorders receive the best possible coordinated patient experience, our physicians collaborate across multiple disciplines, including gastroenterology, surgery, nutrition, oncology, radiology, and pathology.
Hartford Hospital and Hartford HealthCare are committed to providing the thousands of people in the region who suffer from digestive disorders with a comprehensive resource for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Money raised through the 2020 Black & Red will support the continued development of state-of-the-art programs and services for patients navigating digestive disorders.
