The Debbie Bator memorial will support integrative and holistic medicine for cancer and hospice patients at Hartford Hospital. This fund will also sponsor an annual Debbie Bator Volunteer Appreciation Day.
Debbie Bator entered Hartford Hospital on June 6, 2006, for heart valve surgery. Due to complications, she was placed in a medically induced coma on a heart/lung machine for eleven weeks. Prospects for her recovery were dim. But with the love of her family and the heroic efforts of the Hartford Hospital cardiac staff and volunteers, she survived.
Anyone who knew Debbie will tell you that she would never give in to her ailments. She wanted to give back to the Hartford Hospital community in support of people dealing with cancer and terminal illness. Debbie continued her Reiki education and became a Reiki master. She then used these unique skills as a volunteer at Hartford Hospital.
Over the last years of her life, she put in thousands of hours and worked with numerous cancer patients, many of whom were terminal. Debbie found this work the most rewarding. She sat with many people in the final hours of their lives, comforting them and helping them deal with their fears and anxieties.
We lost Debbie on April 28, 2020, at the age of 63. But her spirit continues on as an unbreakable, powerful force for love and kindness.
