Hartford Hospital is grateful to our longtime friends from the ERRACE organization for raising $107,500 for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute through their Annual Everyone Ride/Run Against Cancer Everyday (ERRACE) event in July 2023. The donated funds will support the institute’s community outreach programs, which provide the region’s patients with greater access to cancer screenings and healthcare.

The popular, family-friendly community event—which includes 100, 50, and 25-mile bike rides and a 5K run/walk—was created by Allyson and Dr. Andrew (Andy) Caputo in 2010 to support cancer organizations, including the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center in Avon where Allyson was a patient. Sadly, Allyson passed away in 2012—but her and Andy’s ERRACE lives on and continues to attract hundreds of participants each year.

“ERRACE is about the community coming together to give back to the community,” said Dr. Andrew Caputo, Executive Director of ERRACE. “People traveled from across the region—even states away—to support our 2023 annual event. We are so grateful for their participation, our sponsors, and for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute’s amazing partnership and commitment to providing everyone in our community access to preventative screenings and outstanding care.”

“We are so appreciative for the many years of philanthropic support provided to our hospital by Team ERRACE, as well as the leadership of Dr. Andy Caputo who has been an incredible and steadfast partner to the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute,” said Lynn B. Rossini, Vice President, Philanthropy at Hartford Hospital. “Community events, such as the Annual ERRACE, provide a fun and meaningful platform for people to engage with our hospital and make a difference in the lives of the patients and communities we serve. Hartford Hospital is grateful to ERRACE’s participants, volunteers, and fundraisers—many of which are our very own colleagues—who come together each year to benefit our cancer community outreach and patient assistance programs.”

Since its inception, ERRACE has raised a total of $2 million for cancer organizations and donated nearly $650,000 to the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute. We thank Allyson, Andy, and the thousands of individuals and families who have participated in ERRACE in support of cancer patients, programs, and research. The 2024 edition of the Annual ERRACE event is scheduled for July 13, 2024.
